Dramarama Safeguarding Policy

General Illness

  • Before the start of a camp, if a child is unwell, parents must inform Dramarama immediately. The child should not join the camp.

  • While camps are in attendance, parents must inform Dramarama immediately if their child is unwell. The child should not continue to attend from this point.

  • If a child cannot attend as above, we will provide a credit note, pro-rata, for any full, unspent days, valid for up to twelve months for use on another Holiday Camp.

  • All credit notes are discretionary and non-transferrable. We do not offer refunds.

  • If a Dramarama staff member becomes unwell they will not come to the venue; the camp will continue with another teacher.

Structure of Drama Camps

  • Your child will be met at a designated drop-off point by their drama teacher/assistant.

  • You will be provided with your child's group name (where applicable) and drop off/collection information before the start of the camp. Please ensure that this information is passed on to all adults who are dropping-off/collecting on your behalf.

  • Parents/carers cannot enter the school site to use the school toilets themselves or for a sibling/other child who is not attending the camp.

  • Dramarama camps will take place in a well-ventilated indoor space.

  • Children will be taken for a toilet/hand-washing trip at the start and end of each session. Dramarama teachers/assistants will assist children to the toilet during the day as necessary and ensure effective hand washing is carried out.

  • Dramarama will provide a first aid kit, and staff will wear clean plastic gloves when administering first aid.

  • All Dramarama camps for 3.5 - 11yrs will be offered as Drama Workshop sessions, unless otherwise specified. Where possible, parents/carers will be invited to a Parent Watch class on either Thursday or Friday afternoon, depending on the venue. Timings will be provided the week before the camp start date.

  • All children must be 3.5 years and older and have attended nursery for at least one term.

  • Children must be fully toilet trained and able to use the toilet facilities independently. We provide toilet steps and seats if required but our staff do not enter the cubicle to provide intimate care. Staff ensure that children wash and dry their hands properly.

  • If your child is tearful at drop-off, and is in distress at being left, Dramarama staff will do their very best to encourage them to stay. We ask that parents/carers assist and encourage the separation process and we can discuss this with you ahead of the camp start date if you have any concerns. Most children settle quite quickly once their parent/carer has left, however if after a period of time your child remains upset despite our best efforts, we will suggest that they try again on day two of the camp. If the same issues occur on the second day, we will offer a pro-rata credit note, valid for twelve months, to use on a future camp when your child is ready. Please note, credit notes are non-transferrable.

  • For each camp, Dramarama creates a parent/carer Whatsapp group, for ease of sharing information with you. This Whatsapp group is deleted at the end of the camp.

  • Dramarama takes photos and videos of children participating in our camps to share with parents/carers via the Whatsapp group, so that you can see the activities your child is participating in each day. Dramarama may also use photos/videos on Dramarama material. We never include children's names or personal information. Please inform us in advance via email (info@dramarama.co.uk) of the camp if you do not give permission for your child to be included on Dramarama material.

  • Special offers: please note that all special price offers are non-transferable and cannot be used with any other discount offered.

  • Extreme weather policy: if there is a heatwave, with very hot weather, please be assured that the children will be kept cool and hydrated. Children will not go outside but will instead by in a well-ventilated, breezy classroom/indoor space for the duration of the camp. Children will have their water bottles with them at all times and will be reminded to drink throughout the day. We have also scheduled frequent breaks for water and their bottles will be topped up regularly. Please do not be alarmed if your child's water bottle is full at the end of the day, this is where it has been replenished. Please ensure that children are wearing sunscreen and have sunhats for when they leave the camp. Our staff will check regularly that no-one is suffering in the heat, or feels poorly. Our games and activities will be appropriate for the extreme weather.

Effective Hand Washing

  • Adequate hand washing and drying facilities will be provided, including soap, warm water, paper towels and bins for safe disposal.

  • Dramarama staff will wash their hands upon arrival and exit and will carry an anti-bacterial hand sanitiser and tissues for use during the session.

  • Dramarama staff will oversee children effectively washing their hands upon arrival and throughout the day as required.

  • All children are taken on regular toilet breaks and our staff are on hand to help the children wash and dry their hands as necessary.

  • Dramarama staff will ensure that children apply hand sanitiser throughout the day.

Please also note: All pre-school / nursery children must be fully toilet trained and able to use the toilet facilities independently. Our staff do not enter the toilet cubicle and cannot provide intimate care. We provide toilet seats and steps. Children cannot attend the camp wearing nappies or pull-ups.

Lunch and Snack Time

  • Parents must provide named nut-free and sesame-free packed-lunches, snacks, and drinks. Please ensure your child’s name is clearly visible on their items as many children have the same/similar lunchboxes and containers. Please ensure that food items such as grapes, sausages and cherry tomatoes are sliced as they are a choking hazard if eaten whole.

  • Parents must provide all food and drink in named packets or containers that can be opened and closed by your child.

  • If a Dramarama teacher helps open wrappers, lunch boxes or flasks, a new pair of latex gloves will be worn and discarded immediately afterwards. Dramarama staff will always endeavour to help the children with their belongings, but please ensure your child’s practises opening their own items beforehand, to minimise contact with their items.

  • Children will eat lunch / have playtime with the other children in their group.
